Glycoscience NEWS Lesson #55 for 2020

One week ago (3/28), I announced the “Mystery of the Next 2 Weeks.” The next day, I called it, “The Horrendous Next 2 Weeks.” The following day, President Trump announced, “This is going to be a very, very tough 2 weeks.” Today, he said, “There will be death” and then added that this coming week will be the “toughest week. … We will move heaven and earth to safeguard our great American citizens.”
One Week Comparison
Here is a quick comparison of where the world and the US were at the beginning of the two week and today. The 1st day of this 2 week period saw over 300 deaths in the US bringing the number slightly under 2,500. Today, the 7th day, saw 1,354 deaths in the US bringing the number to 8,496. On the 1st day, Italy was nearing 11,000 with Spain under 7,000. Today, the official count of Italy is 15,362 and Spain is 11,947. One week ago, the infectious embers were scattered over 48 countries of Africa with nearly 6,000 confirmed infected and more than 150 deaths. Today there are 52 African countries confirming 8,814 infections with 383 deaths. This count is remarkable and wonderfully low compared to where we were concerned that it might be. Yet, many potentially hot spots on the planet remain tender boxes.
Just ahead
This coming week will provide new understanding of why the most vulnerable are the most vulnerable. We will examine why the native American is vulnerable to the virus and what we can do about it. We will examine why the diabetic is more vulnerable and what we can do about it.
