The Virus Chaos

Glycoscience NEWS Lesson #9 for 2020

by JC Spencer

02/06/2020 –
Today China acknowledged that the death toll from the coronavirus outbreak reached 563. Japan reported that 10 passengers aboard the luxury cruise liner, Diamond Princess, were infected and quarantined for at least another 12 days.

Hospitals in Wuhan, where the virus originated are in chaos in a struggle to find enough beds for the thousands of newly infected patients. At midnight Wednesday 2/5/2020, China’s national health commission released a report that there were 28,018 confirmed cases throughout the country – a rise of 3,694 and the biggest 24-hour rise plus another 24,702 suspected cases.

Agencies reported that 10 new cases involve four people from Japan, 2 from the US, 2  from Canada, 1 from New Zealand, and 1 from Taiwan. The World Health Organization has declared an international public health emergency. Hundreds of experts will gather in Geneva early next week in an attempt to find a way to fight back against the outbreak by speeding up research for new drugs and vaccines.

The WHO’s director-general, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, yesterday 2/5/2020, asked for $675 million to help countries address the expected spread of the virus. He added that if we do not invest in preparedness now the bill will be much higher.

Hu Lishan, a senior official in Wuhan, announced that the 11 million population city is facing a “severe” shortage of beds. Hu said 8,182 patients had been admitted to 28 hospitals that have a total of 8,254 beds, adding that they also had inadequate supplies of equipment and materials.

Citizens trapped in the chaos are using their cell phones to report to the outside world. Another cruise ship off Hong Kong with 3,600 passengers and crew were quarantined for a second day on pending testing after three positive cases onboard.

Hong Kong’s Cathay Pacific Airways asked its 27,000 employees to take three weeks of unpaid leave, saying conditions are grave. American Airlines Group and United Airlines said they will suspend flights to and from Hong Kong, a step that could leave no U.S. carriers flying passengers to the Asian area.

Chinese stocks took a hit of nearly $700 billion on Monday with many factories closed, cities cut off and travel links are constricting global supply chains. Hyundai Motor will suspend production in South Korea because of a disruption to the supply of parts. This is the first major car maker to halt production outside of China. Global auto makers have already extended factory closures in China in line with government guidelines including Hyundai, Tesla, Ford, PSA Peugeot Citroen, Nissan, and Honda Motor. Plane maker Airbus has prolonged a planned closure of its final assembly plant in Tianjin, China. Taiwan’s Foxconn, maker of phones for global vendors including Apple, aims to gradually restart factories in China perhaps next week but uncertainty hangs in the air.

To win the war with the virus, the medical mind set must change. The FDA needs to allow toxin-free cures be available to the public with proven claims.

Victory against the virus will be on its way through immunology, improvement of cellular communication integrity, and modulation of the immune system. Glycoscience holds the answer to the virus chaos.
