Today, the death toll from China’s new coronavirus epidemic surged to at least 1,523 after 139 more human lives were lost in the epicenter of Hubei province. The health commission for the province reported 2,641 new cases of the COVID-19 strain.
More than 67,000 people have now been infected. In a news conference, National Health Commission official Liang Wannian stated that the government will attempt to contain the spread of virus in Wuhan, which has been under virtual lockdown for three weeks.
Regardless of the official Beijing Daily newspaper warning that people failing to obey government orders to quarantine would be punished – several free wheeling “journalists” have posed on social media dozens of video reports. A Mr. Chen posted what appears to be his last video on February 4 before disappearing:

Consequentially, Mr. Chen and several other “journalists” are missing. Their family and friends do not know where they are.
Unfiltered streaming videos out of Wuhan reveal striking footage from ground zero where normally any criticism about government authorities is quickly stripped from social media and those responsible punished. The state department deployed hundreds of journalists to reshape appearance of the outbreak.
This and other videos reflect the growing thirst for free speech in China. The revolt against government censorship broke out on social media immediately after the death of Li Wenliang, the Wuhan doctor who had tried to warn of the virus before officials had acknowledged the outbreak.
China’s leader, Xi Jinping, said that officials need to “strengthen the guidance of public opinion.” One truth seeking journalist said,“I am scared. In front of me is the virus. Behind me is China’s legal and administrative power.” After authorities contacted his parents to learn his whereabouts, he pointed to his camera, he appeared desperate and defiant, “I’m not … scared of death. You think I’m scared of you, Communist Party?”
French Health Minister Agnes Buzyn on Saturday (Feb 15) announced the first European COVID-19 death. There are at least 46 cases of coronavirus in Europe with11 cases in France and 16 in Germany. The total number of confirmed cases in Malaysia to 22. Cruise ship MS Westerdam, carrying 1,455 passengers and 802 crew members, was turned away by five countries. The CDC’s director told CNN that the agency is preparing for a widespread outbreak of COVID-19 across the United States.
To win the war with the virus, a different medical approach must be made. The FDA needs to allow toxin-free cures be made available to the public with proven claims.
Victory against the virus will not come from developing a new drug for each new pathogen. Victory will come through immunology, improvement of cell-to-cell communication integrity, and the modulation of the immune system on an individual basis. Glycoscience holds the answer to the war.
We cannot continue to just hurl needles at the dart board. Family and government dollars can best be invested in immunology by making the human immune system more battle ready. This can be accomplished with improved glycosylation of glycans and glycoprotein on the cell surface.
